Wow where do I start with Katie and Ben’s colourful wedding in Kent?! They had a relaxed and vibrant day at the Blue Pigeons in Kent. I was really excited for their day as Katie and Ben are both so kind and I loved spending time with them.
Getting ready for their colourful wedding in Kent
Katie got ready at The Blue Pigeons. Bear Beauty did Katies mare-up and she looked absolutely gorgeous. I was also beyond excited as Katie was wearing the most stunning dress, a pink dip dye ombré wedding dress by Lucy Can’t Dance. It suited her so much and she got compliments on it all day long! I highly recommend Lucy Can’t Dance if you’re looking for a wedding dress with a pop of colour that is sure to wow!
Their first look
Katie and Ben decided to do a first look. A first look is when you see each other, just the two of you for the first time in private. They wanted to have this special moment together, and then take a few photos with their family. It meant they could enjoy the entire day after that knowing all the “group” photos were done and they could literally just relax and enjoy themselves. I’ve done a few first looks over the years and I think it’s such a great idea. (I think we may end up doing it for our own wedding too!). I think it’s a good option as it can be a bit daunting seeing each other for the first time in front of a huge crowd of people. It takes the pressure off for the ceremony part I think!
Capturing the special moments…
Ben looked super dapper in his suit and Katie looked so stunning. Ben was definitely pleasantly surprised! It was so so sweet to see them share this special moment together. The outside area at The Blue Pigeons looked really lovely. They had beautiful event styling by Natalie over at Love Is Personal. She provided the really cool geometric archway along with the neon “Better Together” sign.
After taking a few photographs with close family we headed back upstairs. A glass of champers was in hand whilst the rest of their guests arrived and got seated.
A beautiful humanist ceremony
Katie and Ben chose to have a humanist ceremony which was really special and personal. It included lots of funny anecdotes and stories about their journey so far. They had also written their own vows to each other which were so wonderful. And it’s safe to say Ben was quite emotional reading his! Once they were declared Husband and Wife, they signed their marriage certificate and were cheered down the aisle in a flurry of pretty confetti!
Pimms please!
It was time for pimms and catch ups! As we had done all the family photos before the ceremony, it meant Katie and Ben could really relax. They enjoyed their drinks, canapés and catching up with their guests. It also meant I could spend time just taking natural and candid shots of Katie and Ben with their guests. We did a few photos with friends towards the end of the drinks and then I nipped inside to photograph the room set up. Everything looked so pretty. I loved the exposed brick wall and natural light. The flowers and beautiful cake The Nutty Baking Barrister gave the room pops of colour all over.
Beautiful speeches for a beautiful colourful wedding
Speeches were absolutely fantastic and both emotional and funny. I loved that Katie spoke and Ben’s was also great too. There were some lovely reactions to capture, especially their parents. After dinner we had a short walk around Blue Pigeons and I just love these photos! Everyone migrated to the garden for a bit of music from Fennie, who was one of Katie’s music students. They played and sang for us and everyone had a little dance and singalong. It was a lovely way to kick off the start of the evening!
Glued to the dance floor at this colourful wedding
I had been told that Katie and Ben absolutely loved a dance floor and that could not have been more true! IT was brilliant to see Ben glued to the dance floor all night long. Everyone was loving the music provided by the DJs, The Boom Box who were great. It was really hard to leave this colourful wedding and say goodbye as every song choice was just too good! I also loved that Katie and Ben had included inflatables and silly props for the dance floor as everyone had loads of fun and I definitely think it encourages people to dance and play up to the camera too. I had such a fantastic day with you Katie and Ben, thank you for asking me to be your colourful wedding photographer!
