Being a wedding photographer I get to travel all around the country (and sometimes even abroad) and this time I was lucky enough to be heading up north to photograph Bryony and Ryan’s picturesque Lake District wedding! They had had to postpone a couple of times due to covid but it was 100% worth the wait. They had a beautiful tipi erected in Bryony’s parents garden, provided by the lovely team at All About Me Events. It looked so gorgeous and rustic and the views surrounding the house were so picturesque. There was a small lake, rolling green hills and trees as far as you could see.
Getting ready for their perfect picturesque Lake District wedding
Bryony got ready downstairs in the house with her Mum and bridesmaids, while Ryan got ready upstairs. This was great as it meant I could pop along to see both of them and get a few photos. Bryony looked so great in her dress, I loved the whole style – and the dress had pockets! The ceremony was just down the road in the main village, at St Mary’s Church in Kirkby Lonsdale. The church was beautiful and it was lovely to arrive and capture some of the guests arriving – some of whom had travelled really long and far, as Bryony and Ryan had been living abroad in the UAE before the wedding. So there were lots of people they hadn’t seen for a while as well due to the pandemic!
Planning for your photos
I had already had a chat with the vicar before the wedding day and I’m so happy I did. One of the church’s rules was photos only from the back of the church which was so important to know. If you’re getting married in a church, I highly recommend asking your vicar about any photography rule. It avoids any big surprises on the day and everyone is able to work together to achieve some lovely photos.
Walking down the aisle and confetti throws
It was actually really lovely to be able to capture Ryan’s reaction to Bryony walking down the aisle. The ceremony itself was really special and the atmosphere in the room was just wonderful. On the way out, it was time for a mega confetti tunnel and loads of tight hugs! It was really nice to see Bryony and Ryan reunite with their friends from abroad and people they hadn’t seen for a while due to covid.
Everyone then travelled up to the house and garden for the drinks reception, complete with some doggy cuddles and everyone admiring the beautiful views out to the Lake District. There were such picturesque backdrops for all the photos, and while people were getting seated for dinner, we had a quick wander around the garden for a few minutes. The tipi looked amazing, I love the general vibe of tipis so much (we’re having one for our wedding next year!) and also I can’t not mention the flowers, which Bryony did herself – how great do they all look?!
Inside the tipi it was time for a BBQ feast from Allison Thompson Catering – seriously so delicious. Heaps of sausages, steak, burgers and mountains of potatoes and yummy salads. After some really funny speeches, iit did start to rain a little but it didn’t stop anyone from getting ice cream from The Milking Parlour – this is England and we WILL still have ice cream no matter the weather. I opted for honeycomb with melted chocolate on top!
Dancing in the rain
The party went absolutely off – as I’m sure you can tell from the photos. So much fun dancing with everyone, big shout out to the band Back from Beyond! It was still raining into the evening, so we made it work for us and got some beautiful photos at the end of the night. Rain can actually work really well for photos and it was a great photo to finish the day on. Thank you Bryony and Ryan for entrusting me to capture your epic Lake District wedding, it was fantastic!
