What a year 2024 has been – filled with love, laughter, challenges, and of course, some incredible wedding moments captured through my camera. It’s kind of crazy to think another year has gone by so quickly. I’ve now been a wedding photographer in Essex for over 12 years! Reflecting on the past twelve months, I can’t help but feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude for all my amazing couples. Thank you so much to all of you who trusted me to document one of the most important days of your lives.
What I’ve loved most this year are all of the beautiful and meaningful moments. From quiet little moments during the morning, personal vows, couples with their children, portraits of your parents together, first looks between Brides and their family members, or their bridesmaids. Stunning sunsets, walks through Greenwich Park, tequila shots, precious moments with grandparents, colourful confetti, fish and chips, baby bumps and emotional tears at the top of the aisle.
Not just a wedding photographer in Essex – I’ve been here, there and everywhere!
From town hall ceremonies to magical woodland celebrations, 2024 took me to amazing places. I photographed festival-style tipi weddings, grand country houses, and even traveled abroad. Each couple were incredibly special and I’m always very lucky to have couples who just want relaxed, candid and fun photos. I’ve absolutely loved getting to know each of my couples and loved partying with you on the dance floor too. I’m genuinely always on such a high on the drive home from each wedding. I’ve been to some incredible venues, from Wellington Wood in Norfolk, Primrose Hill Farm in Oxfordshire, and Woodhall Manor in Suffolk. From Gosfield Hall in my home county of Essex, all the way Brympton House in Somerset! And, even adventuring over to Belgium to the beautiful Ferme de Beaurieux!
2024 was also the year we got married ourselves!
This year was extra special because, in May, we got married ourselves! It was everything we’d dreamed of. It was so fun to be on the other side! I am proud to say I was on the dance floor from 8:30pm through until 12:15am! With not even a wee break haha – it was the absolute best!! Standing in my couples shoes has also given me a whole new perspective. Understanding what it means to plan and live through a wedding day and this in turn has helped me understand my couples more. I really do feel I can offer better support through the highs and stresses of wedding planning, as I’ve now been through it myself.
While I do still love an artsy photo with some cool composition (a shot for “photographers” is what you might say), I’ve also been making more effort to ask guests if they’d like their photo taken (if I feel the vibe is right and the couple will appreciate it). I’ve made a conscious effort to ask parents or important family members if they’d like a nice portrait together. Because when else are you going to have your loved ones together with a professional photographer? While I do still absolutely love all the candid moments from our own wedding photos and that’s a big element for me in my own work, I also love the group ones of us having fun with our family and friends.
I wear my heart on my sleeve, and this year was not without it’s challenges
Of course, this year hasn’t been without its challenges. The wedding industry as a whole has faced tough times, and from what I’ve gathered talking to people generally, it’s felt like quite a hard year. On a personal note, planning our wedding brought up deep emotions for me. It’s been over two years since I lost my Mum, and her absence was felt deeply throughout the process. So, I send lots of love to anyone else going through grief or tough times right now. It also reminds me of just how precious our time with loved ones truly is.
And I find that the passing of time is what drives me in my work. Weddings aren’t just about the big moments – they’re about the quiet ones, and the people who make our lives rich and full. And I know that this is such a special day and we cannot re-do it. Capturing these memories is an honour I don’t take lightly.
I’m so excited to share some of my favourite moments from the year. Whether it’s the light catching just right in a magical woodland ceremony or the gal who didn’t let crutches stop her enjoying the dance floor in full swing, I love all these photos and hope anyone reading this enjoys them too.
Thank you to every couple who welcomed me into their lives this year. Your trust and joy have made this year unforgettable, and I can’t wait to see what 2025 brings.
