Relaxed and colourful wedding inspired by a midsummer nights dream

15th June 2023

Wow, just what a wedding Emily and Duncan had! I am so happy they chose me to capture their special day. It was a pure delight from start to finish. When they first got in touch, they said they were after a super relaxed day, with pops of colour. The vibe was ‘a midnight’s summer dream’ decoration wise and I think they absolutely smashed it!

Emily got ready at an Airbnb close by to their venues with her bridal party. It was a really nice morning with lots of chatting, pastries and beautiful views out to the fields of Sussex. Emily looked beautiful, and her dress was such a dream! She opted for separates from Wardrobe by Dulcinea. Her top had embellished stars and the bottom was a beautiful tulle skirt which turned pink at the ends. So amazing and really unique!

They had their ceremony at The Chantry which is a little gem of a venue in East Sussex. The ceremony room is a chapel style room (although the ceremony is a civil ceremony led by registrars) and then you can also make use of the garden space before and afterwards.

The Chantry was decorated beautifully and the main room also had lots of natural light coming from the windows. I loved the retro 70s style signage as well throughout the day which was from the uber cool Peach Wolfe. Duncan shed a couple of tears as Emily walked down the aisle, who was accompanied by her Mum. They had written beautiful personal vows to each other which was quite emotional! It was a real joy to witness.

After the ceremony, they had drinks and nibbles in the garden of The Chantry before we headed over to Punnetts Town Village Hall. I’ve photographed a few Village Hall weddings before and I absolutely adore them every single time.

As I mentioned earlier, the decorations and effort that Emily and Duncan had put in was phenomenal! I loved the stars on the ceiling, the mismatched wooden vintage chairs and all of the gorgeous stationery, plus all of the gorgeous glassware. Glassware hire was from Betty Loves Vintage and prop and furniture hire was from Luna and the Lane. Also we can’t not mention the epic and unique cake by Bee May Baker – obsessed! There were also some delicious chocolates as favours from Crofts Chocolates.

We took a few photos at the village hall with family and friends – I love the one of Emily with her bridal squad! I love that everyone had different colours and outfits on. It all still complimented and worked so well. One thing I was majorly excited for (and I think Emily and Duncan) was dinner! They had hired The Two Fridas Vegan Mexican to serve tacos, burritos and all sorts of delicious goodness from their super cool truck and oh my god – it was out of this world. Tacos are one of my favourite foods and it actually went down so well at a wedding!

After dinner, we had a range of lovely speeches and maybe a few embarrassing photos of Duncan passed around from his best men, which people had to vote on whether he was a “hunky Dunky” – it was really fun and a way to get everyone interacting with each other.

Emily and Duncan had decided on a fairly short first dance, having a quick 20 second dance together before inviting everyone to join them. Emily had also changed into a sequin jumpsuit from Rosa Bloom for the party – so epic! I have some bits from Rosa Bloom myself and they make you feel amazing, such a great party or festival outfit! And it always looks so cool on a Bride. The party was so much fun, I found it so hard to leave as it was just banger after banger and everyone was loving it. I hope you can tell from some of these photos! Thank you so much Emily and Duncan, I had the most brilliant time with you.
