A wedding proposal at Wilderness Festival

31st March 2018

I was so excited about going to Wilderness Festival and I was even more excited when Adam got in touch and told me he was planning a wedding proposal at Wilderness Festival! He got in touch to say he was planning to propose to Harriet and that he wanted the special moment captured! He had brought the tickets as a surpise for Harriet’s birthday, to mask the REAL surprise: the proposal!

We had a chat on the phone to plan the logistics, as I needed to be sly and inconspicuous so Harriet wouldn’t notice me! Adam told me he planned on doing it on the boating lake, how beautiful! The queue for the boats was really long but Adam had planned to have a boat set aside at 3pm so they could hop straight on, and he told Harriet he had a “friend” on the boating team which meant they could skip the queue! Obviously not having met them before (I did try to quickly meet Adam on the Thursday night before the proposal the next day to have a quick re-con but reception at the festival was terrible and they had arrived late and had to set up a tent in the rainy darkness!) So I asked Adam to send me some photographs of the two of them together so I could easily recognise them and then secretly stalk them on the boating lake 😉

I got there super early as I wanted to make sure I didn’t miss them, so I got there and scouted out the area and luckily there was lots of trees round the lake which I could lurk in (omg I’m such a creep aren’t I?) Luckily there was lots of other people just hanging round and queueing up for the boats so I didn’t look out of place and I waited until Adam and Harriet arrived. They jumped onto their boat and I followed them with my camera for about a minute or two – then Adam popped the question! He did it very very quickly, he said he was super nervous and wanted to get it done as soon as he got on the boat – bless him!

Harriet’s reaction was absolutely amazing! She was totally surprised and burst into tears! It was such a lovely moment to capture and I was welling up like crazy. Lots of kissing, hugging and more happy tears and he put the ring on her finger. They then rowed about for a while and everyone in the queue for the boats cheered for them! Harriet couldn’t stop crying and smiling!

Once they got off the boat, everyone in the queue formed a little tunnel for them to run through while cheering, so sweet! Harriet said she was completely surprised and didn’t expect it at all, and it was so lovely to see how happy they was. It was the perfect way to kick off Wilderness Festival!
